Repair Cafe
In September 2019, St Johns and Transition Woodbridge teamed up to create a Repair Cafe. This was kindly seeded by Woodbridge Lions and East Suffolk Council. The teams of repairers and “receptionists” were made up of members from both organisations.
This is held in St Johns Church on the first Monday of the month 10-12noon. There are refreshments available as well.
The aim is to repair items for reuse rather than bin them. We estimate that we’ve saved over 4,000kgCO2e last year. Examples of some items:
- sewing items like hems, buttons etc.
- leather repairs
- tool sharpening like shears
- glueing items like small bits of furniture, ornaments etc.
- small soldiering items
- electrical items
- mechanical items
- electronic items
The people involved with the electrical/electronic items are people properly trained to do this work. All items are PAT tested after repair.
When an item is brought along, it will be assessed as to whether someone at the Repair Cafe can help and if so, and the parts are to hand, the item will be repaired while you wait. It may be that you would need to go away, get a part and return the following month to finish off the repair.
If there is someone else in the town like Essex Shoe Repairs, Fiona’s Fabrics, Hythe Conservation who could help we will direct you to them. If something is beyond repair then sadly we will suggest you bin it.
So tell your friends about us, look out all those items you have been meaning to get sorted and make a date to come see us.
