SUMMARY:Fromus Blackberry Day
DESCRIPTION:Simpson’s Fromus Valley is a series of species-rich flower meadows with a fascinating history. To provide protection to sensitive flora\, the gates to this nature reserve are normally locked\, but it is opened to the public two or three mornings a year. \nSaturday 13 September is one such morning – just in time for blackberry picking! Sloes\, bullaces and blackberries are all there for the picking from the hedgerows for your larder — just leave some for the birds! \nTrustees and volunteers will be on hand for guided tours\, or you can take a self-guide leaflet and explore the 28 acres at leisure. There’s something for everyone — medieval earthworks\, bugs\, butterflies\, spiders\, dragonflies\, birdlife and\, of course\, wild flowers! Wear long trousers/sleeves and sturdy boots as the ground is uneven and may be muddy. \nSorry\, no dogs. \nFind out more here.

SUMMARY:Beachwatch: Bawdsey Point
DESCRIPTION:Join this beach clean to help us stop harmful litter from reaching the ocean and collect vital data that we can use to bring about positive change for our seas. \nAt a Beachwatch event volunteers clean and survey 100m of beach. The information is then sent to the Marine Conservation Society who collate and analyse the data\, helping them to act in an effective\, evidence-led way\, to tackle the worst marine pollution offenders and lobby for changes in legislation. This has already led to positive legislative change with recent restrictions on the manufacture\, sale and use of various single-use plastic items having been implemented in recent years. \nWe will be collecting and surveying on the beach at Bawdsey Point\, IP12 3AX. If anyone wishes to stay on we’ll have lunch 12:30 to 13:00 and do an optional wider clean of the beach if needed from 13:00pm. \nLunch is not provided – you will need to bring your own packed lunch/drinks or use local facilities. \nFind out more and book your space.
