DESCRIPTION:First of all a huge thank you again for taking part in our bat survey between May and September 2023. \n\nMark Bowler from the University of Suffolk will be presenting the debrief of last year’s results on Thursday 28th March\, 7pm at Woodbridge Community Hall to which you are warmly invited\,\n\nThe results so far look really good with all the same species recorded as in 2022.  Everyone in Woodbridge and Melton has common and soprano pipistrelles and most have more species than these.   The results emphasize again the importance of woody areas such as Martlesham Creek\, Porters Wood\, Melton Woods\, Wilford Bridge lakes for potential roosts.\n\n\nThere are far fewer bat numbers though than 30 years ago so we do have to redouble our efforts to encourage bats here by planting trees and shrubs\, keeping grass longer and having patches of scrub\, and especially by installing a pond!   Join up with your neighbours and sign up through our website https://transitionwoodbridge.org.uk/local-wildlife-corridors/ to our green corridors project where we have an enewsletter and events to give people ideas for wilding their gardens or green space. \n\nHope to see you on 28th March\n\nJane and the TW team

DESCRIPTION:Heathland conservation task\, Upper Hollesley Common\, Friday 26 January 10:00-15:00. This has been arranged by ESC on behalf of the Greenprint Forum\, with east Suffolk’s Countryside Team hosted at ESSL. This site is part of the Sutton & Hollesley Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a site of international importance for lowland heath. Goats help to manage the site during the spring and summer\, with additional manual removal of small conifer saplings required to help conserve this habitat vital for Priority species such as Nightjars and Woodlarks. DESCRIPTION:Martlesham Wilds – a new reserve where nature will thrive \n  \nThere will be a chance to hear more about Suffolk Wildlife Trust’s plans for their new Martlesham Wilds Reserve when Andrew Excell from the Trust presents a talk entitled “Martlesham Wilds – a true wild space to help nature recovery right on our doorstep” at Woodbridge Community Hall\, Station Road\, IP12 4AU on Thursday 18 January 2024\, starting at 7.30 pm. \n\nPhil Smith\, Chairman of Suffolk Wildlife Trust’s Woodbridge Wildlife Group\, who have organised the talk\, said “Following the tremendous support Suffolk Wildlife Trust received with their fundraising campaign to buy the reserve\, it will be great to hear more about the their exciting plans to develop the space for wildlife.” \n\nMr Smith continued “Following the talk\, we will be holding an Auction of Promises\, which we hope will provide some entertainment as well as raising funds to assist with the work planned at Martlesham Wilds over the coming months. A range of local businesses have supported us by donating ‘lots’ for the auction including hairdressers\, garden centres\, tourist attractions and breweries. There really will be something for everyone at the Auction and card payment for lots will be accepted on the evening” \n\nAdmission to the evening is £3 for adults\, with Under 25’s free.  Light refreshments will be served and there will be a raffle.   Doors open at 7 pm.  There is no need to book for this event. \n\nFor further information please e mail swtwoodbridge@outlook.com or telephone 01473 625630.
