Beavers are the ultimate ecosystem engineers most noted for their ability to build dams, but what are the consequences of these activities?
Through the release of beavers in Essex (and in many other projects around the UK) it has been possible to assess the impacts on water quality, biodiversity and natural flood management and discover whether the positives outweigh the negatives.
The Wildlife Trusts are now calling for the long delayed licences to reintroduce wild-living beavers but what would this look like and can it really assist in combatting the Climate and Biodiversity Crises?
