What a great time was had by all at today’s car free day. Such a relaxed, chilled out atmosphere.
Transition Woodbridge had two pitches and I (Hilary) can only tell you about one: ‘come and learn all about compost!‘. We built a compost heap in the middle of the road to show how to layer the nitrogen and carbon rich layers.
We wanted to promote the use of spent, nitrogen rich coffee grounds in enriching your compost/soil. This is a resource we have plenty of along the Thoroughfare and all the cafes were generous in giving us their grounds today. We want to push the use of this brown ‘gold dust’ and hope you will go into the cafes with your container and ask them to fill it for you.
We also had a worm composting bin for folks to peek into and learn how you can turn your kitchen scraps into a valuable addition to your soil. A worm composter is clean and takes up very little space.
