A busy, busy year!!

ONGOING PROJECTS

Working parties mulching, weeding and maintaining all fruit trees, maintaining dinghy at Whisstocks, replanting edible beds at Library for summer and winter 2022, weeding, mulching mini nature reserve beds, watering rota of trees – following up swapped rota/issues/damage

Managing Lime Kiln Quay and Cannon Beds by the Red Lion.  Monitoring flora species at verges under “Pardon the weeds, we’re feeding the bees” East Suffolk Council scheme at Hillyfields, Through Duncans and Lime Kiln Quay – Charlie, Jane.  Pam is also monitoring Jetty Lane.

Community Fruit Harvesting in June-Oct 2022.  156 boxes and 13.5 punnets of fruit harvested.  Fruit passed on to New Horizons, St Andrews lunch club, Tanyard Court/Fison House/Suffolk Place/Elmhurst Court residents, Helping Hands, Woodbridge Salvation Army, Stennetts Felixstowe, FIND, St Johns & St Andrews’ Little Pantries

RiverClean with Woodbridge Sea Scouts in September 2022.  Transition Woodbridge assisted Melton Wombles led by Peter James with their litterpicks.

5 Minute Litterpick points.  Jill and Carol have checked points. And created new ones around Melton and Woodbridge, most recently at the Library, so we have 8 points now.  Jill got funding from AONB for more litterpickers. We have 2 spare sets to use at events where we have our stall.

Repair Café with St Johns listed on Suffolk Recycling pages along with other Cafes in Suffolk.  Jane continued to support Martlesham Repair Café and Repair Shed.

Jane continued to represent Transition Woodbridge on the Woodbridge Town Council Climate and Ecological Committee.

Communications team of Jessica, Hilary, Jane, Ellie, Isla helped keep followers up to date in the press, freebies, Facebook, website, Instagram with news and articles about our projects and local issues written by our members

Continuing to promote and collect items for recycling at several points in town – Library, Post Office, Poppy’s Pantry

NEW PROJECTS DURING THE YEAR

Jane helped organise the WTC CEEC Climate Action event.  Several of us distributed flyers to publicise that and we had our stall there too.   Speakers Dan (Local Food Project), Hilary (Wildlife Corridors), Carol, Jill (5 Minute Litterpicks), Jane (Repair Café) spoke about Transition projects at the event.

Helped Woodbridge Town Council Climate and Ecological Emergency Committee with Anti-idling campaign, Sea Level Rise, Tree planting and rewilding, hedgerows, water harvesting, Bike scheme.  Helped Melton Parish Council with wildflower and fruit tree planting advice.  Helped with watering Hall Farm Road Sports Ground during summer drought.

Deb and Jane continued to provide consultancy on tree planting around Woodbridge & Melton, specifically Deben View, Jetty Lane, Fison House

Waterers tea party in October 2022 to thank all rota volunteers.

Hilary created Food Miles games.  Had stalls at Jubilee events in Woodbridge and Melton. Stall at Martlesham fete, at Woodbridge Art & Music Festival.  Posters at Opera in the Park.  Organised Environmental Sustainability Fair as part of Ambient Music Festival in September 2022.  Attended parade and wreath laying on Remembrance Sunday 2021 & 2022.

Wildlife Corridors events in May and October 2022.  Slide show collated by Hilary of people’s photos from their gardens showing wilding aspects in May and steps taken to protect against drought in October.  2 Citizen Science groups analysing with Wendy in lead

Bat Survey over June-September 2022 organised by Jane and Deb.  80 households took part.  Awaiting results in 2023.

Arranged Autumn Tree Walk with Martin Minta on October 15, Carol has written a guide to the walk.

Jane liaised with Just 42 to provide upskilling workshops for young people on bike maintenance, electrical, woodworking led by Repair Café repair volunteers

 

Dan applied for funding from Transition Towns for Local Food Project leaflet 2023

Presented food project at Woodbridge Climate Action Centre together with other projects November 2022.

Promotion of “Too Good to Go App” to cut food waste in the town.

Creation of YouTube Channel – Green Umbrella

Nominated Wakelyns for the BBC Food & Farming Award, Farming for the Future.
